In 1992, after many years of experiencing conflicts in schedules, overlapping events, and nearly no professional working relationships, an informal meeting was coordinated between employment and business service representatives from the AZ Department of Economic Security (DES), the City of Phoenix, and Maricopa County. This initial ‘core’ was quickly expanded to include many other representatives from the public and private sector…most of whom remain active contributing members.
These representatives knew each other professionally and socially – and were all concerned that their agencies were operating inefficiently – and that was also causing confusion within the local business communities and clients that they served.
A working partnership agreement was established wherein all parties of the group would coordinate their respective activities – and join forces to produce larger, more effective, productive events and projects throughout the year. More importantly, continue the inter-agency dialogue that began in that small room in the beginning.
The group eventually formalized under the name of Networking Employment and Training Professionals Association (NETPA).
